FIs are facing increasingly higher costs caused by loss of productivity because of security-related attacks on ATMs. This, coupled with the recent mandate to be compliant with PCI standards, translates into increased pressure on FIs to improve the security of their ATM networks. The software, part of a growing family of self-service software from Wincor AutoTell, is designed to enable ATMs to perform Web-based e-commerce transactions.

According to a news release, with the combination of ATWeb and Wincor Nixdorf's ProCash ATM, the two companies believe they have the lowest cost Web-enabled solution for the self-service industry. Standard equipment includes a Bill Waugh, president of Wincor AutoTell, said in a news release that ATWeb has its own toolkit, which enables users to design applications themselves so that they are not dependent on any single vendor.

According to the release, with ATWeb all files can be downloaded via industry standard Web protocols, and all ATMs can pull application content from a central Web server. ATWeb also supports dial-up based connections, according to the release. A single modem can be used to dial either the Web server for e-commerce transactions or the host processor for standard ATM transactions.
